MAGMA Museum _ Interactive Experience

This is a University project realized in collaboration with MAGMA Museum of Civitanova Marche (Italy)
University of the Republic of San Marino _ MA Interaction & Experience Design

The goal of this intervention is the implementation of an interactive experience for the MAGMA Museum of Graphics and Posters of Civitanova Marche. The research phase begins with the definition of our target audience. They are mainly designers and specialized personnel, but there is no shortage of families, children and simple enthusiasts.

/ StartING questions /

What are the critical issues of the museum?
WHAT ARE THE STRONG POINTS?
WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE COULD INCREASE THE NUMBER OF VISITORS?
WHAT ARE THE TOOLS AVAILABLE?
HOW COULD THE VISITOR BE INVOLVED?
HOW COULD WE INCREASE THE NUMBER OF TOUCHPOINTS TO GENERATE MORE ENGAGEMENT?

/ DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT /

DRIVE _ BY EXPLOITING THE DIGITIZED POSTERS, OUR INTERVENTION GIVES VISITORS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONSULT THE INFORMATION THEY NEED. THIS WAS POSSIBLE BY PLACING A QR CODE UNDER EVERY POSTER exhibit IN THE MUSEUM. THE QR REFER TO THE "SCAN" SECTION INSIDE THE MAGMA WEB PLATFORM.

INVOLVE _ THE MUSEUM HAS AN ENDLESS AMOUNT OF POSTERS. USING ONE OF THE ROOMS OF THE MUSEUM, WE TRIED TO SHOW THIS VAST MATERIAL BY EXPLOITING VIDEO PROJECTION. AT THE END OF THIS EXPERIENTIAL PATH THE VISITOR WILL FIND THE INTERACTIVE ROOM IN WHICH THEY WILL "ENTER" INTO THE ARCHIVE.

personalize _ INSIDE this interactive room, the user will have the possibility to independently decide what he wishes to see projected on the side and front walls. The room is not designed to carry out research but to offer the user an interactive experience.

/ TECHNICAL COMPONENTS /
A total of four technologies are required, three of these placed inside the physical dashboard (which controls the fourth external component, the projector). The whole system is managed and made functional through Processing, a Java-based graphics library, which can interact directly with the Arduino board.

RFID SENSOR _ RFID cards are sensors mainly used in identification and access control applications. Inside each card there is an RFID sensor that communicates with a special reader placed inside each of the four slots of the interactive dashboard.

ARDUINO UNO _ The main element of the interactive dashboard is represented by the Arduino Uno board. An infinite turn knob and four RFID readers (one behind each slot) are mounted on it.

PROJECTORS_ The posters will be projected on the two side walls of the room through the use of two short-range projectors, generating an image of about 100 inches.

LED Lights _ WHITE STRIPES OF LED LIGHTS ARE PLACED UNDER THE ENGRAVINGS OF THE PICTOGRAMS.

/ EXTERNAL TOUCHPOINTS /
To guide the user towards the new interactive experience of the "Infiniti Posters" room (on the third floor of the structure), we decided to place an information plate, inside each museum room, with a QR code that leads the user to the scan section of the MAGMA web platform. This section invites the user to frame the poster to open a page with the dedicated information.
